The Rosebud Foreshore RockFest is a fun filled festival celebrating all that was great from the ‘50’s & ‘60’s. SPUKES will be playing as a part of the street entertainment on Saturday 17th November 2018.
SPUKES returned to Village Glen Aged Care Residences (formerly known as Ti Tree Lodge) on Wednesday 18th July. We performed a one hour set and entertained around 60 people plus support staff.
Rex Stokes is now at peace after a six month struggle with cancer. A dozen members represented SPUKES at his funeral by playing and singing ‘You Are My Sunshine’ at the service.
The end result The final result is very pleasing. It has a homespun authentic and genuine feel about it. The video images of our players during the recording definitely warm the heart. Time will prove this to be a good song, one that people will want to sing and play....
SPUKES will be backing a recording of The Warrains new song ‘Two’ written by Chris Swayn. This is what you need to practice.
On the first Sunday in May (6th May) we are running a ukulele workshop at the Peninsula Folk Club, starting around 5 30pm. We have been asked to make the workshop about “Ukulele Techniques”.
There are only a handful of ukulele luthiers in Australia and they all come from a musical background. Chris Dovey of Rosebud came to music and SPUKES through his skills in fine woodworking.
During the summer season some of our members were looking for colourful clothes for our performances. We’ve had good reports on shirts from Island Style Clothing, an online store based in Twin Waters on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland.
St Patrick’s Day 2018 saw SPUKES back at Ti Tree Lodge to perform a solid 1 hour set of Irish Songs. We added a few vintage Irish numbers this year and were lucky to have Eily Watson leading the ensemble for those songs.
