Southern Peninsula Ukulele Group

SPUKES is a community based ukulele group located in Rosebud where people of all ages come together to enjoy a few hours of ukulele strumming, singing and friendship.  We meet on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of the Month and alternate Mondays.

Throughout the year we play at various events such as the Rosebud Kite Festival, Buskfest, Christmas Parade and other community based fundraising events.

Saturdays (12 noon – 3 pm) at Rosebud Memorial Hall
Held on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month attract 60 to 70 members on average. $5 per session including afternoon tea.

Alan's Monday Morning Mayhem

Mondays (9:30 am – 11:30 am) at Rosebud Memorial Hall
This smaller group meets on the first and third Mondays of the month. $5 per session including morning tea.

How music saved a community

How music saved a community

Faced with extinction due to drought, falling milk prices and the closure of the Heinz factory, Girgarre started playing music once a month. Now it’s the home of one of Australia’s great participant music festivals, the Girgarre Moosic Muster.

Hawaiian Shirts and Clothing

During the summer season some of our members were looking for colourful clothes for our performances. We’ve had good reports on shirts from  Island Style Clothing, an online store based in Twin Waters on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland.

Another ShamRockin’ Performance

St Patrick’s Day 2018 saw SPUKES back at Ti Tree Lodge to perform a solid 1 hour set of Irish Songs. We added a few vintage Irish numbers this year and were lucky to have Eily Watson leading the ensemble for those songs.

St Patrick’s Eve at Main Ridge Petanque Club

I took the “Monday ukulele players” group up to the Main Ridge Petanque Club on Friday 16th March to provide pre-dinner entertainment. Being St Patrick’s eve the theme was Celtic of course.
