Standing Room Only
It was a full house at PFC’s May meeting, and a great night for SPUKES.
At the Workshop before the main Concert Alan and Karen served up a guessing game of chord progressions so that we could work on rhythms without the distraction of lyrics!
It all led up to a rehearsal for ‘Wagon Wheel’, which the workshop participants performed as the opening number for the concert.
SPUKES on Stage
SPUKES also did a set during the concert with the coconuts clicking for “Cool Water’ Glen Furze taking the lead for ‘Deep Ellem Blues’ and a tight and bright “I’ll Fly Away’ to round it all off. There were a lot of comments from PFC regulars about how good SPUKES has become.
Trevor and Alan bumbled their way through a rendition of ‘Wonder Where He Is Now’ with wonderful guitar backup from Karen. But Karen’s solo vocals (with a little help from Alan) later in set really stole the show.
More Music
Other performers from the Folk Club showed just how much talent there is in our local music communities.
The Headline Act was ‘Nine Mile Creek’ – a bluegrass band extraordinaire. For those of you who missed out, if you ever get a chance to see them perform live, grab it. You will not be disappointed.
These photographs were taken by Russ Anderson, our occasional percussionist and long time friend of SPUKES. Thanks Russ. You can see more of Russ’s photos on the Peninsula Folk Club website.
